According to Yahoo! Sports, the Knicks, Rockets and Wizards have had discussions about a possible three-way deal that would send exiled Tracy McGrady to New York, with Al Harrington going to Washington and Caron Butler to the Rockets. Obviously the salaries don't entirely match up, so other players would have to be involved.
In today's Newsday, we reported that Donnie Walsh has visited McGrady to check his progress as he continues to rehabilitate from microfracture surgery last spring and was considering another visit before the Feb. 18 trade deadline.
With 31 games to go and a six-game deficit behind a playoff berth, it is hard to believe McGrady would make that great of a difference. But it's worth a shot, especially with such a desperate need in the backcourt. If McGrady is anywhere near healthy, he and David Lee could be a formidable pick-and-roll tandem.
McGrady's status is sure to be a hot topic at all-star weekend in Dallas.
