Shoni Schimmel, a WNBA All-Star point guard, was acquired by the Liberty via a trade, the team announced Monday.

The Liberty sent a 2017 second-round pick to the Atlanta Dream in exchange for Schimmel.

Schimmel was the eighth overall pick out of Louisville in the 2014 WNBA draft. The two-time All-Star and 2014 All-Star Game MVP has averaged eight points, 3.4 assists and 1.5 threes per game in her two seasons.

Schimmel is considered a threat from beyond the arc. She shot 38.3 percent from three in 2014 and has hit five three-pointers in a game three times.

“Shoni Schimmel has demonstrated she can shine on a big stage, and I am confident that with the leadership on our coaching staff and on our team she will thrive as a member of the New York Liberty playing at Madison Square Garden,” team president Isiah Thomas said in a statement. “Shoni is a good fit for our style of play. Her long-range shooting will really allow us to spread the floor on the offensive end. She takes pride in giving back to the community and she shares the same core values we look for in every member of our team.”
