The Nets haven’t given their fans many victories this season, but in the home finale Saturday at Barclays Center, they gave them more than a 107-106 comeback win over Chicago.
They also gave them the shirts off their backs.
Some fans from a full house of 17,732 were brought out on the court after the game. The players took off their jerseys, signed them and gave them away. Fan Appreciation Night was officially complete. “Sellout tonight, they’ve supported us all year,” coach Kenny Atkinson said. “It makes you emotional.”
Actually, the rebuilding Nets, who are 20-60 with two road games left, spent much of the evening saying thank you to their customers.
Before the opening tip, the entire team walked to center court, and Jeremy Lin and Brook Lopez addressed the crowd to basically say thanks for the support. Later, there were video messages from the Nets stressing the same theme.
The Nets finished 13-28 at home but have won three straight and five of their last six at Barclays Center.
The fans made lots of noise when the Nets came back from a nine-point deficit in the fourth quarter.
“Awesome,” Lin said. “The crowd was amazing. I felt like they did a great job and they definitely gave us a boost.”
