The suspension was announced today by NBA Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations Stu Jackson.
The incident happened late in the third quarter of the Celtics' 96-81 loss to the Pistons on Sunday. Rondo, frustrated that a foul wasn't called on a drive to the basket, threw the ball at a referee at the end of the play. He was also ejected from the game.
It was the culmination of an ugly stretch for the Celtics, losers of five of the last six games. In that time, the Celitcs lost by 12 to the Raptors, and a pair of games to the woeful Pistons.
Rondo had big back-to-back games last Sunday and Wednesday, hanging 32 and 35 on the Bulls and Pistons respectively. However, he needed 17 shots to score 17 in an 89-80 loss to the Bulls last Thursday, and then finished with just five points on 1-for-6 from the field in Sunday's game.
