The seeds were planted for the shift in running back duties in Week 7 for the Buccaneers. LeGarrette Blount had 11 carries for 72 yards and Cadillac Williams was relegated to mainly third-down responsibilities. That was a sign for fantasy owners to add Blount. If he's still out there, pick him up.
Blount had 22 carries for 120 yards with two TDs and two catches for nine yards in a 38-35 win over the Cardinals yesterday. Blount isn't an explosive back, but is a power back that will get most of the goal-line carries. Williams hasn't shown any explosiveness this season at all and he had just four carries for 10 yards and three catches for 26 yards. He will be the third-down back.
Blount first got a chance to play for the Bucs in Week 3 against the Steelers. He ran extremely well against a physical defense that was playing at an elite level at the time. He rushed for 27 yards on six carries with a TD and I picked him up in a 16-team league and stashed him. Blount was inactive in Week 6, but a season-ending injury to Kareem Huggins gave him another chance. The main concern for Blount was pass protection, usually the case for rookie running backs.
Blount also had a 48-yard run late in the game to seal it where he hurdled a defender. If you haven't seen the highlight, check it out.
