It happens every season. A player starts to emerge on the fantasy radar and gets overvalued. Then he has a down season due to injuries or bad luck and he becomes undervalued or forgotten.
This has happened to the Braves Martin Prado, who has eligibility at third base and outfield. I am amazed how far he has fallen in drafts so far. Prado had two good seasons and struggled last season.
Prado missed time with a staph infection in his right calf. He came back from the injury and struggled. It clearly impacted his performance. Prado batted .260 with 66 runs, 13 home runs and 57 RBIs in 2011.
After the All-Star break, Prado batted .244 with five home runs and 24 RBIs. Prado is a good contact hitter. Both his BABIP and line drive rate were below his normal rates.
Prado hit .307 with 100 runs, 40 doubles, 15 home runs, and 66 RBIs in 2010 and batted .307 with 11 home runs in 450 at-bats in 2009. Expect a Prado to be better in 2012.
