The recent postponing of the February 23 Showtime bout between IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander and Kell Brook fight just goes to show how important it is to have a deep card when putting on a boxing show.

A bicep injury suffered by Alexander during training, forced the promoters to push back the fight. It’s the second time the fight has been postponed. The bout was originally set for January 19, but Brook suffered an ankle injury that forced a postponement.

A new date is expected to be announced shortly.

But no worries, IBF junior middleweight champion Cornelius Bundrage (32-4, 19 KOs), who was set to take on Ishe Smith (24-5, 11 KOs) in the main undercard, will instead headline the shot at the Masonic Temple Theater in Detroit.

The 39-year-old Bundrage is unbeaten in his last five fights, which includes two knockouts of Cory Spinks.

It’s a shame Alexander (24-1) won’t be on the card defending his belt against Brook (29-0, 19 KOs), a solid opponent, but injuries happen all the time.

Kudos to Golden Boy Promotions for getting the Bundrage-Smith fight on the card. Bundrage doesn’t have the name Alexander does, but he’s been around the block and is a Detroit resident, which should help ticket sales.
