EPIX to show three heavyweight title bouts

If there are any fans of the heavyweight division in boxing still standing, EPIX has a treat for you. The upstart network will broadcast three championship fights in three successive weeks beginning in mid February.

Heavyweight champions Vitali Klitschko (WBC), Alexander Povetkin (WBA) and Wladimir Klitschko (WBO, IBF) will defend their belts over three consecutive weeks. All three of the bouts will be broadcast in the United States on EPIX. The fights will also be streamed on EPIXHD.com.

Vitali Klitschko (43-2, 40 KOs) will take on Dereck Chisora (15-3, 9 KOs) at at Olympiahalle in Munich on February 18. Povetkin (23-0, 16 KOs) will defend his belt against Marco Huck (34-1, 25 KOs) in the Porsche-Arena in Stuttgart Germany on February 25. Wladimir Klitschko (56-3, 49 KOs) will cap the three-week stretch on March 3 with a bout against Jean Marc Mormeck (36-4, 22 KOs) at the ESPIRIT Arena in Dusseldorf, Germany.

“EPIX was pleased with the fan reaction to its exclusive live U.S. telecasts of Vitali Klitschko and Alexander Povetkin’s heavyweight title fights last year,” said EPIX COO Travis Pomposello. “Now to be able to televise live an unprecedented three-week block of the best in the heavyweight division is as exciting to EPIX as it is to U.S. boxing fans.”

EPIX will also present a closed-captioned simulcast of the fights on the Jumbotron in Times Square.
