Dilsia Bonilla, a senior at Kellenberg High School, won the 106-pound New York Golden Gloves title Wednesday night at Empire City Casino at Yonkers Raceway. Bonilla, 17, scored a 5-0 decision over Neena Ajwani in the four-round bout.

"The Golden Gloves is what I set out to win when I first started boxing at 13," she said. "I've been training for this night for way too long to not win it."

Bonilla, of Westbury, has trained for most of her career at the Westbury Boxing Club. But for the Golden Gloves tournament, she began training at the Freeport PAL. Despite the excitement of the victory, Bonilla was still at school at 7:45 a.m. Thursday for her first class.

"I am sore and tired," said Bonilla. "I honestly couldn't sleep last night after the fight. I was up until about two in the morning. I didn't know I was going to win until they raised my hand. I was beyond ecstatic. I jumped up, I hugged my opponent, I was crying hysterically."

Bonilla, the manager for Kellenberg's wrestling team, said she is focusing on her upcoming high school graduation. And beyond that, she has landed a berth at the National Golden Gloves tournament in July.
