Manny Pacquiao is going to fight May 7.
The question is who and where.
ESPN.com first reported Wednesday that the Filipino congressman had set the May date. Bob Arum said in an interview that they would prefer Pacquiao to fight Shane Mosley.
As the Neurtral Corner first suggested in November, a Mosley-Pacquaio is the best available matchup. Everyone wants to see Pacquiao take on Floyd Mayweather, but that fight isn't likely to happen until at least the fall of 2011, possibly May of 2012.
Mayweather has several pending legal issues to deal with.
Mosley is in the process of splitting with Golden Boy Promotions, so that is a deal that could happen pretty soon. If it's not Mosley, Juan Manuel Marquez and Andre Berto are possible candidates.
Marquez' asking price is likely to be very high, while Berto doesn't have the name recognition. But it's worth noting that Pacquiao did fight Joshua Clottey earlier this year.
Look for the MGM Grand to be the venue. One source referred to Pacquiao as a "cash cow" for the casino.
