The LI Amateur Boxing Championships tournament starts tonight in Lawrence

The Long Island Amateur Boxing Championships and Charities Inc (LIABC & C Inc)continues to develop their international exchange program with an agreement with  both the Puerto Rican and Dominican federations.  This year the winners of the Fifth Annual Long Island Amateur Boxing Championships will compete against a combined team from these two Latino-American powerhouses of boxing in the month of November.  Domingo Solano, president of the Dominican Republic Federation and vice president of the International Boxing Federation (AIBA) is here to observe the Fifth Annual Long Island Amateur Boxing Championships scheduled for Aug 18-21 at the Five Towns Community Center located at 270 Lawrence Ave, Lawrence New York.  Weigh-in for boxers will take place at 5:30 p.m. on all four nights and the first bout starts at 7:30 p.m. 


The champions of the Fifth Annual Long Amateur Boxing Championships will be traveling to the Dominican Republic in October and participate in their international invitational tournament.  These competitions are designed to give local boxers international amateur exposure to develop the skills that are essential for competing at Olympic and Pan American Games level.  According to president of LIABC & C Inc, Michael Carryl, “our boxers will continue to underachieve if they fail to learn the nuances and adapt to changes in Olympic style boxing.”
