Adelphi tops Wilmington, Old Westbury sweeps in college baseball

Freshman Brandon Morse went 5-for-5 with an RBI as Adelphi edged Wilmington 3-0 in college baseball. T.J. Santiago threw a five-hitter and struck out seven for the win. Robert Vani added three hits for Adelphi (7-3). Wilmington is 2-9.

SUNY Old Westbury swept a doubleheader Lehman College 16-4 and 10-9. In the opener, third baseman Joey Walsh went 3-for-4 with six RBIs. In the nightcap, Joe Boscia went 3-for-4 with three RBIs as Old Westbury opened a 10-5 sixth inning lead. Lehman scored four times in the bottom of the seventh inning to make the score 10-9 before reliever Ryan Mordecai came on to retire the final two batters for the save.

Hofstra (4-8) saw its four-game winning streak end in a doubleheader loss to Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia. Hofstra dropped both ends of the doubleheader , 2-0 and 4-3 in 12 innings. Losing pitcher Adam Heidenfelder threw 4 1/3 innings of relief before Colton Konvicka homered.

Dylan Resk doubled in two runs in the fifth inning of Stony Brook’s 8-3 win over Villanova. Reliever Chad Lee picked up the win for SBU (5-7) with three innings of scoreless relief.

Softball

Courtney Lawrence and Samantha Wood both pitched complete games for Suffolk County Community College (2-2) in a pair of 9-1 wins over Community College of Rhode Island. Paige Baker had two hits and three RBIs in the first game. Lauren Galligan had a triple and three RBIs in the second game.
