If Hofstra coach Joe Mihalich needed a centerpiece to rebuild the Pride basketball program around, he got one yesterday when 6-10 center/forward Andre Walker of Clarksburg, Md., signed a national letter of intent for the 2014-15 season. ESPN ranked Walker as the 11th-best player in Maryland and 50th center in the nation.

As a junior at the Bullis School in Potomac, Md., Walker averaged seven points a game and provided a strong defensive presence for a team that won the IAC title. He averaged 10.8 points, 11.2 rebounds and 6.2 blocked shots as a sophomore at Clarksburg HS. A shot-blocking center who can run the floor, Walker drew interest from Maryland, Xavier, DePaul, George Mason, Delaware and Fairfield.

“We are thrilled to add someone of Andre’s caliber to our program,” Mihalich said in a statement. “His size a versatility will be a key asset as we develop a roster moving forward.”
