AP men's and women's polls week of 2/8; Kansas No.1, St. John's women remain No.25

Kansas retained the top spot this week, while Syracuse jumped up one place to No.2. Kentucky moved up one place to third and Villanova dropped two spots to fourth. Kansas wasn't a unanimous choice, though, as Syracuse (8) and Kentucky (2) eached received first-place votes. The Jayhawks had 55 first-place votes.

Purdue moved up two places to sixth West Virginia moved up a spot to fifth, while Duke and Kansas State, moved up to eighth and ninth, respectively. Michigan State took a tumble, falling five spots to 10th. Texas also fell out of the top 10, dropping five spots to 14th. Mississippi dropped out of the poll and UNLV entered for the first time at 23.

WOMEN'S POLL

UConn is again No.1. The only change in the top 5 was Nebraska moving from No.4 to No.3 and Notre Dame dropping a spot to fourth. Xavier and Ohio State each moved up one place to sixth and seventh, respectively. Duke moved down to slots to eighth, while West Virginia moved into the top 10 and sits at ninth. Florida State also made the top 10, jumping from 15th to 10th. 

North Carolina had the biggest drop, falling from ninth to 18th. Oklahoma State dropped five places to 15th. Locally, St. John's stayed in the poll for the second week at 25th.
