Butler cruises to easy 77-59 win over UTEP

Butler's three-point shooting has been on point, especially in the second half. Shelvin Mack has seven threes (all in the second half) and has a career-tying 25 points. Butler has 13 three-pointers for the game, which is a new record for threes in opening round contests.

It's Butler's 21st straight win, the longest current streak in the country.

Butler will face Murray State in Round 2. At least one mid-major team is getting to the Sweet 16.

Early on it wasn't all roses for the Bulldogs. Their fears came to life in the first half as UTEP's Derrick Caracter had his way in the paint. The Louisville had 12 points on 6-for-8 shooting and seven rebounds as the Miners bolted to a 33-27 lead.

UTEP'S quick guards and superior frontcourt players are giving Butler problems on offense. Gordon Hayward, the Horizon League player of the year, has just six points. Butler is shooting 37.5 percent from the field.
