This time the Bearcats fate wasn't sealed at the free throw line. Instead, it was a key defensive stop that propelled the No. 11 Cincinnati into Thursday's quarterfinal.
With 5.9 seconds left and Louisville trailing by 3, Cardinals guard Edgar Sosa raced down the court, desperate to throw up a game-tying bucket before the buzzer. But Cincy's Deonta Vaughn slapped the ball away before Sosa could get the ball in the air, as the Bearcats eked out a 69-66 victory in the second round of the Big East tourney.
They'll face former head coach Bobby Huggins and No. 3 West Virginia at 9 p.m.
Sosa, a New York native, led all scorers with 28 points. Darnell Wilks led Cincy with 16 and both Lance Stephenson and Yancy Gates chipped in 12.
