Cornell shoots past Temple 78-65

Here's the 12 vs. 5 upset everyone was looking for. Louis Dale (21 points), Ryan Wittman (20 points), and Jeff Foote (16) were the story for Cornell, in its 78-65 win. They shot a combiuned 19-for-31 from the field, including 7-for-13 on three-pointers for the Big Red. The Owls had no answer.

Temple shot well from the field (51.9 percent), but that doesn't cut it when your opponent shoots 56 percent. Juan Fernandez and Ryan Brooks each had 14 points for Temple. The Owls have lost in the first round of the tournament for the third straight season.

There's not much you can do when an opponent shoots 68 percent from the field in the first half. Cornell is absolutely abusing Temple in the paint and on the perimeter. It started with Big Red 7-footer Jeff Foote, who got some early points in the paint.

Temple tried not to double. When they did Cornell made them pay from the outside. The Big Red is only shooting 2-for-7 from three, but they have drained a number of mid-range jumpers.

Temple has shot the ball well (11-for-22), but they have 10 turnovers and are getting beat on the boards (10-6).
