Duke, Texas & Hofstra highlight Storm schedule

Fresh off a record-breaking season which featured a road win over Connecticut and its first trip to the Sweet 16, St. John’s and first-year head coach Joe Tartamella will be tested early in the 2012-2013 season.

The Red Storm faces Texas in its season-opener on November 9 in the WBI Tip-Off in Daytona Beach. They’ll follow that with another WBI game against soon-to-be Big East foe UCF.

St. John’s returns home on November 17 and will host Hofstra. The Red Storm fell to the Price, 93-82, at the Mack Sports Complex last season. St. John’s hosts Iona four days later on November 21. After that its two straight road games November 25 and December 1 versus Hartford and Boston University.

St. John’s will get its first taste of Madison Square Garden on December 9 when it squares off against Duke. The Blue Devils defeated St. John’s in the NCAA Sweet 16 last season.

The Red Storm will play host to Tennessee Tech, UCLA and St. Mary’s in the St. John’s Chartwells Holiday Classic. The Red Storm will face Tennessee Tech in the first game on December 15, while UCLA will take on St. Mary’s in the second game. The consolation and championship games will be held on December 16.

After that it’s a road game versus Quinnipiac on December, followed by its final two non-conference games against NJIT and Delaware.

The Red Storm returns four starters from last season –Shenneika Smith, Nadirah McKenith, Eugeneia McPherson, Amber Thompson and its top reserves Mary Nwachukwu, Keylantra Langley and Mallory Jones.
