Here it is. The final Newsday area poll for the 2010-2011 season. St. John’s maintained their grip on the top spot, followed by Liu, which jumped three places to No.2 after advancing to the NEC Tournament final. The Blackbirds will earn their first NCAA bid since 1997 if they win. Princeton dropped one place to third, St. Peter’s vaulted six placed to fourth after winning the MAAC title, while Iona actually slid two spots after losing in that game. Fairfield and Rider both dropped three places, while Rutgers came up two places after knocking off Seton Hall in a Big East first-round game on Tuesday.

I'd like to thank all the voters who put in the time and effort to make this poll work. It was a good season for the locals. St. Peter's is already in the tournament, while St. John's is an at-large lock. LIU could get in with a win over Robert Morris in the NEC Final Wednesday. Iona, Hofstra and Fairfield could all end up in the NIT. Stony Brook, although not in the poll, could clinch an NCAA bid with a win over Boston University in the America East Final on Saturday.

1. St. John’s (20-10)
2. LIU (26-5)
3. Princeton (23-6)
