St. John's finally got some good news when coach Steve Lavin announced that recruit Amir Garrett has achieved the eligibility requirements necessary and has enrolled at the school.

The 6-6 wing will start classes at St. John’s when the spring semester begins on Jan. 18. He will be eligible to practices immediately and could conceivably against Texas Pan-American Wednesday.

"We have encouraged Amir to continue developing into the best basketball and baseball player he is capable of becoming. His skill, talent, competitive nature and determination has allowed him to have the opportunity to pursue his goals of competing at the highest level of two sports," Lavin said.

St. John's needs the help. The transfer of Nurideen Lindsey made an already thin Red Storm bench that much thinner. Four players played 40 minutes in Saturday's 56-50 win over Fordham.
