Hofstra's recruiting efforts for the 2012-2013 season continued on Thursday as the school announced the signing of point guard Kentrell Washington to a national letter of intent.
A 6-3 lead guard from Clark High School in Las Vegas, Washington joins a class that includes 6-8 forward Darren Payen (Hamden Hall), 6-8 forward Jimmy Hall (St. Anthony), 6-2 guard Dallas Anglin (Seton Hall Prep) and 6-6 forward Jordan Allen, who red-shirted in 2011-12 for the Pride.
Washington averaged 14.5 points and seven assists his senior season. He helped lead Clark to a 23-5 mark.
"We are excited to add Kentrell to our roster and university community," Hofstra coach Mo Cassara said. "Kentrell has demonstrated a real desire to be successful on and off the court and we are thrilled to have him join our Pride family.”
Washington was named to the Las Vegas Sun's Super Seven preseason team after averaging 18.2 points per game as a junior. That followed a sophomore campaign in which the backcourt standout poured in 20.6 points per game for Western. Washington transferred to Clark before his junior season.
Washington joins a backcourt that returns Stevie Mejia and Penn State transfer Taran Buie.
"I see myself fitting in pretty well on and off the court," Washington told the Las Vegas Sun. "I like the staff, the campus, and the opportunity to be a contributor."
