Hofstra moves into WNIT third round

Jakelle King-Gilchrist scored a career-high 22 points to lead visiting Hofstra to an 82-74 victory over Villanova in second round of the WNIT on Saturday night.

Junior forward Anjie White contributed 14 points and seven rebounds and senior guard Darius Faulk scored 17 points for Hofstra (24-8). The Pride will play the Rutgers-Virginia winner next in the third round.

Five players finished in double figures for a balanced scoring attack for the Pride. Sophomore Aleana Leon and senior Kelly Loftus scored 11 points each 11 points. Hofstra is now 1-1 all-time against Villanova, both games coming against the Wildcats in the WNIT’s second round.

King-Gilchrist, a senior, helped Hofstra into the third round for the first time since 2007 with the first 20-point game of her career.

Hofstra’s 24 victories is now just two behind that 2006-07 squad for the most in the Division I era.

Katherine Coyer’s (21 points)and Adrianna Hahn 18 led Villanova (20-12).
