St. John's junior forward Justin Burrell missed his fifth straight game on Wednesday night.

It' s not as if the Red Storm needed him as they cruised to an 80-44 win over Bryant at Carnesecca Arena. Burrell hopes to be back when St. John's opens Big East play at Georgetown on December 31.

Burrell suffered a high right ankle sprain less than a minute into St. John's game at Duke.

"The way my ankle was progressing, I thought I was going to play today," Burrell said. "I don't see why I can't play at Georgetown."

Norm Roberts wasn't so quick to agree with Burrell and said he would like to see the 6-8 junior practice hard for two days straight before playing in a game. That doesn't give him much time.

After a couple of days off for Christmas, St. John's will resume practice on December 27.

"I'm working hard to get back," Burrell said. "I'll take a couple of days off, relax, come back and go after it as hard as I can."

Burrell took part in a stationery shooting drill on Tuesday.

"I only feel pain to the touch, other than that I don't feel any pain when I move," he said.
