Kansas State tops BYU 84-72, heads to Sweet 16

Jacob Pullen had a career-high 34 points, including seven three-pointers. Denis Clemente added 17 points and New York City product Curtis Kelly finished with 10 points and seven rebounds for No.2 Kansas State in an 84-72 win over No.7 BYU.

It's Kansas State's first trip to the Sweet 16 since1988.

Jimmer Fredette had 21 points, but scored many of those points after KSU had built a double-digit lead. The Cougars will end their season with a school record in wins (30). Fredette also set school records in points in a regular season game (49) and in the MWC tournament (45).  

Jacob Pullen has given Jimmer Fredette a dose of his own medicine. Pullen has 28 points and has hit seven three-pointers. Fredette has just 18 points. Kansas State leads 73-63 with 2:05 left. Denis Clemente has 17 points for Kansas State.

Kansas State has answered every run by BYU. Wally Judge just hit a free throw, extending Kansas State's lead to 62-52 with 8:35 left.

Things are not looking good for BYU. Three of BYU's key frontcourt players are in foul trouble. Brandon Davies has four fouls, while Chris Miles and Jon Tavernari have three fouls each. The foul situation has forced the Cougars to go to a 2-3 zone. Kansas State leads 55-48 with 11:53 left.

Jimmer Fredette has just 11 points on 4-for-10 shooting.

Kansas State is keeping BYU at arm's length with a 45-37 lead with 16:45 left.

Kansas State has really opened things up since falling behind 10-0. The Wildcats are on a 41-21 run and lead 41-31 at the half. Jacob Pullen is on fire with 20 first-half points. Denis Clemente has nine points.

Jimmer Fredette has only taken four shots and has six points. Jackson Emery leads BYU with nine points. Fredette has had problems getting by Pullen. The rest of the Cougars need to execute better in the second half to get Fredette open.

BYU was looking good until a 15-7 run by Kansas State tied the score at 25 with 5:20 left in the first.

Kansas State has come back from a 10-0 deficit, but still trails 18-10 with 10:30 left in the half. Jackson Emery has nine points and Jimmer Fredette has four or BYU. The Cougars are already 3-for-6 from three-point range and has two steals.
