More local news: Stony Brook women prevail, C.W. Post men continue home winning streak, Hofstra wins

After a sluggish start to the season, the Stony Brook Seawolves women's team picked up a 69-57 conference victory over New Hampshire Wednesday night.

Aside from stopping its losing streak at six games, the Seawolves (3-11, 1-1 America East) should pick up a little bit of steam. Stony Brook's next game is a road match against a winnable Binghamton team. The Bearcats are 4-9 and face Boston University on Thursday night.

Former Elmont standout Kirsten Jeter led the Seawolves with 21 points and 20 rebounds.

C.W. Post extends home streak. Aaron Hall drained a jumper with under 45 seconds remaining to lift Post to a 75-73 win over Molloy on Wednesday night. Post (7-4, 3-2 ECC) has won 29 straight home games dating back to the 2007-2008 season. Jonathan Kohler hit a free throw with 47 seconds left to tie the score at 73. Nemanja Jokic led the Pioneers, who overcame a 20 point deficit, with 19 points. Brian Hutchinson led Molloy (4-9, 2-3) with 19 points.

Freshmen lead Pride men. Freshman forward Halil Kanacevic had a career-high 18 points and 10 rebounds and fellow frosh Chaz Williams chipped in 16 points for Hofstra (9-7, 2-2 CAA) in a 77-61 win over Towson (3-10, 0-4). Check out Greg Logan's game story later tonight on or in Thursday morning's edition.
