Midwest Region first round game
At Milwaukee: No.10 Georgia Tech (22-12) vs. No.7 Oklahoma State (22-10) – Gani Lawal and Derrick Favors are a potent frontcourt combination. The Yellow Jackets struggled in the ACC and had many wondering how they made the tournament. But they have the talent to go far. Don’t be fooled by the 10th seed. You can’t count out Oklahoma State either. James Anderson is one of the best players in the Big 12. Obi Muonelo is a dead-eye shooter, who should open the floor up for Anderson. This should be one of the day’s most entertaining games.
At Spokane: No.12. New Mexico State (22-11) vs. No.5 Michigan State (24-8) – It’s all about scoring for New Mexico State. Jahmar Young (20.5 ppg) leads for other players averaging between 10 and 17.5 points. But Michigan State is all about stopping teams from scoring. Tom Izzo is the best tournament coach in the game. His teams have always played up. Kalin Lucas, Raymar Morgan and Durrell Summers will be ready for the Gauchos.
South Region first round game
At Jacksonville, Fl: No.16 Arkansas Pine Bluff (18-15) vs. No.1 Duke (29-5) – There’s no getting around the fact that Arkansas Pine Bluff will be a sacrificial lamb for Duke. Terrance Calvin (10.3 ppg) is Pine Bluff’s leading scorer. And he won’t be nearly enough. Jon Scheyer, Kyle Singler and Nolan Smith are averaging 53.5 points between them. Enough said.
