Notre Dame holds off UConn

Eric Atkins scored 13 points and Jerian Grant hit three key free throws late as Notre Dame held on for its third straight win, 50-48, over No. 24 Connecticut Sunday in Hartford.

"We really controlled the tempo," Notre Dame coach Mike Brey said. "And that takes its toll on a team over 40 minutes when the offensive rhythm isn't quite there."

Notre Dame (14-8, 6-3) trailed 24-21 at halftime, but went on a 13-0 run to open the second half.

Jeremy Lamb had 16 points to lead the Huskies (14-6, 4-4 Big East) and had a chance to tie the game after missing his second free throw on purpose with 2.3 seconds left. He rebounded but his off-balance follow missed.

South Florida 81, Providence 78: Hugh Robertson and Anthony Collins scored 15 points each, and Jawanza Poland hit a go-ahead jumper during an 8-0 run in Tampa, Fla. Providence (12-10, 1-8 Big East) got a career-high 33 points from freshman LaDontae Henton. USF is 13-9, 6-3.

Ohio St. 64, Michigan 49: Lenzelle Smith Jr. scored 17 points and host No. 4 Ohio State (19-3, 7-2 Big Ten) went on a 14-2 run midway through the second half. The No. 20 Wolverines are 16-6, 6-3.
