The NYIT women's basketball team has quietly climbed the success ladder the last three-plus seasons, improving from four wins in 2009-10 to a program-record 16 games last year.

After the Bears' 74-62 comeback win over visiting LIU Post Saturday, they are now within one game of last season's win total.

"This was a big game against a team that went to the NCAA Tournament last year," NYIT coach Anthony Crocitto said.

NYIT (15-0, 7-0 ECC) remains undefeated with the victory and is off to its best start in program history.

But it wasn't easy for the Bears, who overcame a 56-52 deficit with 6:25 remaining in the game.

"We were certainly tested," Crocitto said. "Our character was tested and our athleticism was tested."

Rebecca Lynch led the way for the Bears, scoring 11 of her game-high 20 points over the final 5:42.

Demitra Apergis had 16 points and four assists, Rebecca Romeo scored 11 points and Nikki Jo Rotolo had 10 points and nine rebounds for NYIT.

Alexis Peters led LIU Post (11-4, 4-3) with 18 points and seven rebounds and Chelsea Williams scored 11 points.
