Beth O’Boyle will be named the new women’s basketball coach at Stony Brook University, the school announced Wednesday.

O'Boyle has spent four seasons at Canisius College, the last two as associate head coach. She replaces interim coach Evelyn Thompson, who took over when Michele Cherry resigned during the season.

O'Boyle also spent three seasons as head coach at Montclair State, where she was 51-33 overall and 33-14 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Before that, she was an assistant at Rochester. In her last two seasons, Rochester made the NCAA Division III Final Four.

O’Boyle graduated from Gettysburg College, where she played basketball and soccer.
