St. John's adds Mo Hicks to staff

In a long anticipated move, St. John's announced the hiring of Maurice Hicks as director of basketball operations on Tuesday.

Hicks joins the Red Storm staff as one of the most respected high school and AAU coaches in the country.  In 16 years at Rice high school in Harlem, Hicks won five New York State Federation championships and compiled a record of 352-86.

Among Hicks' top players include Kansas State forward Curtis Kelly, Louisville point guard Edgar Sosa, Kemba Walker (Connecticut), Durand Scott (Miami) and Russell Robinson, who helped lead Kansas to a national championship in 2008.

Hicks is also director of the famed Gauchos AAU program.

"I am very excited to join the St. John's basketball program," Hicks said in a statement. "It is an exciting experience for me, and I am very much look forward to working with a man in coach Lavin who is dedicated in getting St. John's back into the winner's circle."
