St. John's opens Big East Conference play under new coach Chris Mullin when it hosts Creighton in a 2 p.m. matinee on New Year's Eve at Carnesecca Arena. The first of five Big East games at Madison Square Garden comes on Jan. 13 against Georgetown, when Mullin will coach against John Thompson III, son of the coach he once played against in a rivalry that highlighted the formative years of the league in the 1980s.

The rest of the Garden schedule includes games against Marquette (Jan. 23), Villanova (Jan. 31), Seton Hall (Feb. 21) and the regular-season finale against Providence (Mar. 5). The schedule at Carnesecca includes Xavier (Jan. 6), Butler (Feb. 6) and DePaul (Feb. 17).

The first of St. John's nine conference road games comes Jan. 2 at Providence. The Red Storm faces Seton Hall at the Prudential Center on Jan. 27 and faces a tough back-to-back set at Georgetown on Feb. 8 at Verizon Center and at Villanova on Feb. 13 at Wells Fargo Center.
