St. John's coach Steve Lavin continued to follow his modified coaching schedule following successful prostate cancer surgery last month.

Lavin wasn't on the sideline for the Red Storm's non-conference game vs. CAA opponent Northeastern. Lavin participated in practice on Friday, but wasn't on the bench for the team's win over St. Francis on Tuesday.

"Naturally, I have to continue to be mindful of my stamina and how I utilize my energy as I recuperate from surgery," the coach said. "I am working closely with our staff and players as we continue to build our team in preparation for the rigors of conference play."

Assistant coach Mike Dunlap coached the team against Northeastern.

"We are fortunate to have a first-rate group of assistants with experience, expertise and basketball acumen to move us forward during this period of recovery," Lavin said. "I am confident we won't miss a beat."
