Stony Brook to host Illinois in NIT Wed.

Stony Brook will not only play in its first -ever Division I postseason game, it will host it, against a major college team. The Seawolves will play Illinois in the NIT opener Wednesday at 9 p.m. It will be on ESPN.

Athletic director Jim Fiore was very pleased that the NIT accepted Stony Brook's bid to host a game, after the school spent about $75,000 to make the arena fit to hold a big game. The team had played all season at Pritchard Gymnasium, which is too small for the postsesason.

"We're never had a postseason game, we've never had a Big 10 team and we've never been on ESPN. Now we have all three," Fiore said.
