Former Hofstra assistant Van Macon is on hold. He has explored one of the several openings at St. John’s and is awaiting a call back from head coach Steve Lavin. Macon has a standing offer to join Tom Pecora at Fordham.
Lavin said he wants a "dream team" of assistants. Meanwhile, Manhattan apparently has not yet given official permission for head coach Barry Rohrssen to speak with Lavin, but the two, who are close friends, may have run into each other over the Final Four weekend in Indianapolis. Rohrssen is debating if he wants to give up his head coaching job. Other names of interest to Lavin include Tony Chiles, an assistant at Drexel, and Dave Leitao, former head coach at Virginia, DePaul and Northeastern. It is unclear if Lavin will hire anyone from the AAU community of coaches ... Fran Fraschilla has apparently removed his name from contention at Iona -- or he may have been told he was no longer being considered for the job. Hofstra is not commenting on a report that it offered Cornell coach Steve Donahue the job before Tim Welsh.
