Xavier beats Pitt 71-68; moves on to Sweet 16

Hempstead's Terrell Holloway drained four free throws and Jordan Crawford added two in the final 35.1 seconds and helped Xavier to a 71-68 win over Pittsburgh. Xavier exacted a little revenge after getting knocked out of the Sweet 16 last year by Pittsburgh.

It wasn't easy as Pittsburgh missed a three at the buzzer that could've tied it. Gilbert Brown hit two three-pointers in the final 20 seconds to keep Pittsburgh in the game.

Jordan Crawford had 27 points and Jason Love added 14. Holloway had 13points. Ashton Gibbs led Pittsburgh with 19, but only one point came in the second half. Brad Wanamaker added 16 points for the Panthers.

Jason Love is starting to have his way in the paint with 14 points and seven rebounds for Xavier. Love has six of Xavier's last 11 points. The Musketeers leads 61-56 with 2:56 left in the game.

Jordan Crawford has 21 points and is 4-for-7 from three-point range. But Pitt is still close thanks to Brad Wanamaker, who has 13 points. Ashton Gibbs leads Pitt with 18. Xavier leads 52-49 with 7:18 left in the game.

Xavier led 50-37 with 13:43 left, but Brad Wannamaker converted a three-point play during a 7-0 run for Pitt, which trails, 50-44 with 11:22 left.

The Musketeers backcourt trio of Jordan Crawford (10 points), Dante Jackson (9) and Terrell Holloway are carrying the load and have scored a combined 21 points. The Musketeers, who lead Pitt, 35-28 at the break, shot 5-for-11 from three-point range and has four first-half steals. Ashton Gibbs is having an incredible first half for Pitt with 18 points. His partner Brad Wanamaker has just five points on 1-for-3 shooting. The Panthers need to find a way to get him the ball more often.

The Musketeers are on fire as Jordan Crawford hit his third three of the game, giving his team a 31-18 lead with 4:11 left in the half. Crawford has nine points for Xavier, which is on a 16-0 run.

Xavier center Jason Love has six points. If he can compliment Jordan Crawford and Terrell Holloway, the Musketeers could find their way to the Sweet 16. Crawford is on the board with six points for Xavier, which leads 22-18 with 7:11 left in the half.

Jordan Crawford has yet to score for Xavier, which trails Pitt, 18-15, with 9:08 left in the half. Crawford had 28 points in Xavier's first round victory. Ashton Gibbs has 10 points for the Panthers.
