Bob Glauber's hot reads

Outsiders' view: The Football Outsiders Almanac devotes a chapter to each team and makes a prediction based on their statistical analysis. The Outsiders predict the Giants to go 10-6 and win the NFC East for a second straight year. The Jets? Sorry, folks. It's a 6-10 season.

"We expect Eli Manning to slip some," said the Almanac's Bill Barnwell, who grew up in Massapequa.

Why the negative vibe about the Jets?

"Well, the Jets went 9-7 [last year] in a season where everything pretty much went right for them," he said.

Make up your mind: Donovan McNabb can't have it both ways with Michael Vick. The Eagles' veteran quarterback lobbied the team to sign Vick, who missed the last two seasons while serving a prison sentence for an illegal dogfighting operation. But McNabb already has expressed discomfort with the team's handling of Vick. McNabb said using Vick in a Wildcat role interrupted the team's rhythm in Thursday night's preseason game against the Jaguars. Hmmm. Can McNabb at least give this thing a chance to breathe? Sheesh!

Extra point: Give Browns coach Eric Mangini credit for trying to get Braylon Edwards to show some maturity. Mangini had Edwards occupy a locker between 10-year defensive end Kenyon Coleman and 13-year receiver David Patten. "I don't think it was by accident," Edwards said.
