United States Merchant Marinie Academy senior quarterback Brice Moore ran all over host Maine Maritime in Saturday’s 56-31 win in the first league game in the newly-formed NEWMAC football conference.
Moore ran for a career-high four touchdowns, on 21 carries and 137 yards.
This was the second time in USMMA’s first three games where they scored 56 points.
Luke Tiefenthaler added 11 carries for 93 yards and a score, Krystian Abbott rushed six times for 82 yards and a touchdown, and Joseph Bellomo had two touchdowns on 10 carries for 52 yards. James Early rushed for 83 yards and Aaron Rice ran for 78 yards on three carries.
Merchant Marine totaled 577 rushing yards on the day, the most rushing yards in a game for the Mariners in the past six seasons.
USMMA (2-1, 1-0 NEWMAC) used a 21-point third quarter to take a 49-24 lead. Anthony Sandoval led the Mariners with six tackles and Jake McDonough went 8 for 8 on PATs.
