Jake McDonough’s field goal a winner for USMMA

Jake McDonough connected on a 24-yard field goal with 13 seconds remaining in regulation to lead USMMA 45-44 over host Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Liberty League play on Saturday.

McDonough went 5-for-5 on PATs.

After falling behind 44-35 following a WPI 34-yard field goal with 4:47 remaining in the fourth quarter, the Mariners answered with an eight-play, 71 yard touchdown drive that lasted 1:42 to put USMMA down 2.

USMMA quarterback Robert Moore completed 11 of 21 passes for 156 yards and two touchdowns and added 27 carries for 150 yards and three touchdowns.

Wiley Martin rushed 18 times for 86 yards and a touchdown, Luke Jamison made five receptions for 65 yards and a score, and Joseph Vitelli added four receptions for 36 yards and a touchdown.

The Mariners (3-2 overall, 2-1 in Liberty League) combined for 467 yards of total offense, including 311 yards rushing.

Josh Woodburn made nine tackles and Justin Sydlowski and Ian Stoner each added an interception for USMMA.

LIU Post 63, Saint Anslem 20: Senior quarterback Jeff Kidd completed 21 of 30 passes for 201 yards and three touchdowns and had nine carries for 39 yards and a touchdown to lead LIU Post in Northeast-10 conference play.

Pioneers running back David White made 15 carries for 134 yards and two touchdowns, while Malik Pierre and Tim Marinan each added a touchdown.

Shane Hubbard caught a team-high eight passes for 74 yards and James Higgins and Kyle Ward each scored a touchdown.

LIU Post (6-0 overall, 3-0 in NE-10) rushed 309 yards rushing and amassed 532 yards of total offense.

Linebackers Ryan Renfroe and Connor Farrell each made five tackles (four solo, one assist) and Nate Feliz, Kenny Scotland and Joshua Flowers all made interceptions for the Pioneers.
