Freshman Gary Nova threw two third-quarter touchdowns in his first start and host Rutgers' ball-hawking defense intercepted four passes with Logan Ryan returning his second of the game 45 yards for a touchdown in a 34-10 victory over Pittsburgh Saturday.
Nova hit Mark Harrison on a 6-yard TD pass after Rutgers' third interception and connected with fullback Joe Martinek on a 60-yard screen pass as the Scarlet Knights (4-1, 2-0 Big East) handed Pittsburgh (3-3, 1-1) its third loss in four games . . . Ross Krautman kicked a 21-yard field goal as the clock expired, earning Syracuse a 37-34 victory over host Tulane. The Orange (4-2) had a 17-point lead in the first half.
LSU thumps Gators
On their second offensive play, Jarrett Lee hit Rueben Randle deep over the middle for a 46-yard touchdown and No. 1 LSU (6-0, 3-0 SEC) cruised to a 41-11 victory over No. 17 Florida in Baton Rouge . . . Tyler Wilson threw for 262 yards, completing 19 straight passes at one point, leading No. 10 Arkansas (5-1) to a 38-14 win over No. 15 Auburn (4-2) in Fayetteville, Ark. Joe Adams had a 92-yard touchdown run on Arkansas' first play of the second half to push the lead to 28-14.
Mountaineers stutter, roll
Geno Smith threw for 450 yards and four touchdowns in navigating No. 16 West Virginia through another slow start to beat Connecticut, 43-16, in Morgantown. West Virginia (5-1, 1-0) struggled to a 10-9 halftime lead before scoring 23 points in a 7:35 span of the third quarter to take control.
