Report: Maryland ousting Friedgen

Maryland football coach Ralph Friedgen has been told by the university that he cannot return to complete the final year of his contract, officials familiar with the situation told the Baltimore Sun.

Friedgen, in his 10th season with the Terrapins, has been asked to retire, sources told the Sun, but the school might have to buy out the final season of his roughly $2 million-a-year contract.

BYU 52, UTEP 24: Freshman Jake Heaps threw four touchdown passes, connecting with Cody Hoffman on three, Saturday in the New Mexico Bowl in Albuquerque. The Cougars (7-6) started out the season 1-4.

Northern Illinois 40, Fresno State 17: Quarterback Chandler Harnish ran for two touchdowns and threw for another in the Humanitarian Bowl in Boise, Idaho. NIU is 11-3.

Delaware 27, Georgia Southern 10: Pat Devlin threw two touchdown passes and host Delaware (12-2) forced five turnovers to advance to the NCAA FCS title game Jan. 7 against Eastern Washington.

Minn.-Duluth 20, Delta State 17: David Nadeau hit a 32-yard field goal as time expired in the NCAA Division II title game in Florence, Ala. Cody Eich's 20-yard interception return put the Bulldogs (15-0) at midfield with 52 seconds left.

Wis.-Whitewater 31, Mount Union 21: Levell Coppage ran for 299 yards and three touchdowns and Whitewater forced five turnovers to win its second straight NCAA Division III title, in Salem, Va.- AP
