Yianni Gavalas leads LIU Post to rout of Virginia Union

Yianni Gavalas completed 15 of 22 passes for 273 yards and four touchdowns as LIU Post opened its season yesterday with a 42-13 non-conference victory over Virginia Union. Michael Richardson led the Pioneers’ receivers with five catches for 84 yards and two touchdowns. He also threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to Amir Crenshaw early in the third quarter to give LIU Post a 28-7 advantage. Defensive lineman Anthony DeNunzio had three sacks.

USMMA 56, Misericordia 35: Brice Moore completed 6 of 10 passes for 162 yards and a touchdown to lead USMMA in non-conference. Moore also carried the ball 12 times for 45 yards and two touchdowns. Joe Vitelli made three receptions for 114 yards and a touchdown. The Mariners’ point total is tied for the fifth-highest in Academy history, and was the most scored during the tenure of coach Mike Toop, who took over in 2005.
