Once considered the crown jewel of the Stony Brook football program, running back Eddie Gowins won’t be suiting up for the Seawolves again.
Gowins, a senior, asked for and was granted his release from Stony Brook Athletics. “Eddie's contributions to Stony Brook football were great, but he's decided to move on,” Stony Brook Chuck Priore said. “We wish him all the best.”
The report first surfaced in The News and Advance of Lynchburg Va. on Monday.
A two-time All-Big South selection his freshman and sophomore seasons, the Bellport graduate, who ran for 2,269 yards his first two seasons, was limited to two games last season due to injuries.
The loss of Gowins is a blow, but Stony Brook will still have a strong backfield thanks to the return of Miguel Maysonet and Brock Jackolski. Maysonet (1,155) and Jackolski (1,062) combined for 2,217 yards and 21 touchdowns last season.
