Miguel Maysonet has officially signed to play football at Stony Brook University, the school announced Tuesday. The freshman running back was considered the top player available when Hofstra disbanded its team.
Maysonet, Newsday's 2008 Hansen Award winner from Riverhead, was used sparingly in the Hofstra backfield but still led the team in rushing with 380 yards in 11 games. Stony Brook also has Eddie Gowins, the 2006 Hansen winner from Bellport and a verbal commitment from this year's co-winner, quarterback JeVahn Cruz of Half Hollow Hills West.
Stony Brook is also recruiting two-way player Brock Jackolski, who won the Hansen in 2007 while playing at Floyd. Jackolski plans to visit New Hampshire before making his decision.
