Earlier this week, the Football Writers Association of America stripped USC of the 2004 Grantland Rice Trophy, given to the Trojans for winning the national title that year.
USC, of course, was involved in a scandal with former star and Heisman Trophy winner Reggie Bush. The NCAA handed out some stiff sanctions against the Trojans, including a postseason ban and loss of scholarships. The NCAA Infractions Report on USC was released on June 10.
The Trojans, who cannot participate in a bowl game for two years, will remain in the FWAA preseason rankings for 2010, the organization announced.
Interestingly, the FWAA did not name a replacement team to claim the Grantland Rice Trophy. USC destroyed a one-loss Oklahoma team in the Orange Bowl that season. But Auburn and Utah both finished the 2004 season undefeated.
