Gwaltney's college career takes another turn

It appears that another chapter is about to unfold in Jason Gwaltney's college football career.

The former North Babylon star has registered at Division III Kean University in Union. N.J.

Gwaltney, the former North Babylon High School star, rushed for 709 yards in six games last season at D-II C.W. Post. He was granted his release several weeks ago after coach Bryan Collins said the 22-year-old tailback was not successfully fulfilling an off-season conditioning program. Gwaltney disputed that. Reached yesterday, Gwaltney said he was on his way to Kean to register.

Gwaltney has two years of eligibility remaining. Gwaltney had also been considering D-III Mount Union in Ohio.

Gwaltney, a two-time Newsday Hansen Award winner, rushed for 7,800 yards and scored 135 touchdowns in high school. Highly recruited out of North Babylon, Gwaltney played his freshman year at West Virginia but left after an injury and academic issues. He later attended Nassau CC but never played there.
