Hagburg helps Hofstra past Army

Elliot Hagburg hit a pinch-hit home run in the bottom of the seventh to lift Hofstra in an 11-9 non-conference baseball win over Army yesterday.

Hagburg's homer gave the Pride (11-20), which halted a seven-game losing streak, a 9-8 lead. John Kenny went 4-for-4 with three runs, one RBI and three stolen bases.SUNY-Old Westbury 7, Staten Island 3:Bobby Hugli improved to 2-1 and pitched the first complete game of his career for Old Westbury (15-16). Ali Ferreriras and Joe Manzela each had two hits and combined for five RBIs.

Briarcliffe 24, St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) 3:Joe Solomeno was 5-for-6 with three runs, while Anthony Mele and Tim Coglietta each homered for Briarcliffe (17-7, 6-1) in USCAA.Southern Connecticut 5, Adelphi 1:Richard McCarren was 2-for-4 with a run scored for Adelphi (26-11, 12-7) in the NE10.

SOFTBALL

Post sweeps. Christie Softy was 3-for-4 with six RBIs and hit a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth as C.W. Post (33-9) took the second game of an ECC doubleheader, 10-2, over NYIT (20-21).

Nicole Capella scored Softy with an RBI-single as Post took the first game, 2-1. Sarah Kiser struck out 12 in a four-hitter.Fordham 1, Hofstra 0:Samantha Pellechio had two hits, including a solo homer with two outs in the top of the seventh to lift Fordham (37-8) in non-conference. The Rams have won 11 straight. Hofstra falls to 31-8.
