Hofstra's men's lacrosse team loses to Towson, 7-6

Hofstra's late rally came up short as it fell to host Towson, 7-6, Saturday night in men's lacrosse.

Justin Mabus' goal with 6:43 left gave Towson a 7-4 lead before Adrian Sorichetti and Lance Yapor scored in the final minute to pull the Pride within one.

Hofstra outshot Towson 42-26 but Andrew Wascavage made 19 saves for the Tigers (6-5). Chris Selva had 11 saves for Hofstra (6-4).

Adelphi 12, So. New Hampshire 3: Nick Watson had three goals and an assist to lead Adelphi (6-0, 4-0 Northeast-10). Salvatore Tuttle and Luke Spitzer each scored twice and Eric Janssen made eight saves in the win.

NYIT 8, Chestnut Hill 6: Mike Ross scored four goals and Joe Fallon made 13 saves to lead NYIT (7-2, 1-1 ECC). Shawn Murphy's goal gave NYIT a 7-3 lead with 1:18 left in the second quarter. WOMEN'S LACROSSEOhio State 11, Hofstra 10: Kaila Gottlick scored the winner with 1:24 left in overtime for Ohio State (4-6). Brittain Altomare and Emily Considine each scored three goals for Hofstra (6-4).

Adelphi 12, Stonehill 5: Danielle Jaycox scored three goals and Melyssa Mathewson had two goals and two assists for Adelphi (9-0, 5-0 Northeast-10).

Merrimack 10, Dowling 9: Mia Rapolla scored the winner with 47 seconds left in overtime for Merrimack (1-6). Dowling's Nicole Moran had tied it with 49 seconds left in regulation. Kelly DiFede scored five goals for Dowling (6-2).


Briafcliffe wins two.Lyndsay Coppola went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and Ivette Y. Santiago had five strikeouts as Briarcliffe beat Southern Maine, 9-1, to complete a doubleheader sweep. Briarcliffe (13-4 USCAA) won the first game, 9-0.
