The road to recovery for Hofstra basketball continued on Saturday as newly-hired coach Joe Mihalich announced the signing of Eliel Gonzalez.

Gonzalez, of Cayey, Puerto Rico, averaged 11.6 points, 8.1 assists and 5.3 rebounds per game for the Florida Air Academy Falcons last season. He was named to the 2012-2013 All-Space Coast first-team and was selected to play in the Jordan Brand Classic International game.

“Eliel is a very dynamic guard who will thrive in our system,” Mihalich said in statement. “Our fans will love watching him play and we can’t wait to coach him. We are excited about our recruiting efforts so far and look forward to developing a roster that will compete for a conference championship and beyond.”

The 6-3 guard played for the Puerto Rico National U16 Team in 2011. In five games played, he averaged 11 points and four assists per game.

This marks the second signing for Mihalich since being hired. The Pride announced the signing of 6-4 guard Chris Jenkins to a National Letter of Intent on April 17. Jenkins, who attends Gill St. Bernard’s School in Gladstone, NJ, averaged 12.9 points and 4.1 rebounds in 2012-13, while scoring a season-high 29 points (nine three-pointers) against St. Joseph in the NJSIAA Tournament on February 27.
