Wrigley Field hosted its first football game since 1970 on Saturday and, in my opinion, it turned out well.
Illinois beat Northwestern 48-27 behind a school-record 330 rushing yards by Mikel Leshoure. It was also a Wrigley Field record for rushing yards. Illinois and Northwestern had not played at Wrigley Field since 1923.
Despite safety concerns, it created some unique rule changes that made watching the game a different experience.
In short, the east end zone was very close to the right field wall. So all of the offensive possessions went toward the west end zone. (Click on the link above to get all of the background from Friday).
It actually was not as confusing as it could have been. Credit the officiating crew for keeping everything under control.
The only touchdown scored in the east end zone was on an interception return by Northwestern.
I thought the game was pretty cool in Wrigley. The crowd was definitely enjoying the whole experience.
