Kessler lifts USMMA in men's soccer

Cody Kessler scored in the 57th minute off a pass from Nick Cuellar, lifting USMMA to a 1-0 win over Catholic University yesterday in the Landmark Conference Championship game. Gary Poulin made eight saves. USMMA (11-6-1) clinched a berth in the NCAA Division III men's soccer tournament.

WOMEN'S SOCCER

Farmingdale State 1, Mount St. Mary 0: Corine Magee, who was named tournament MVP, scored in the 70th minute for Farmingdale State (15-3-3), which clinched a fifth straight Skyline championship. The Rams earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament. Mount St. Mary is 17-3-1.

FIELD HOCKEY

Northeastern 4, Hofstra 2: Pam Aldridge scored twice to lead 18th-ranked Northeastern (14-6) in the semifinals of the CAA Virginia field hockey championship tournament. Genna Kovar and Arielle Williams each scored, and Amanda Heyde made 11 saves for Hofstra (13-9). Northeastern will face second-ranked Old Dominion in the CAA title game at 1 p.m. today.

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL

Adelphi 3, St. Michael's 2:Chelsea Overholt had 17 kills and Patawe Simms had 15 to lead Adelphi in a 25-27, 24-26, 25-23, 25-11, 16-14 come-from-behind win. Katie Bryson added 50 assists.

CROSS COUNTRY

Farmingdale State's Sean Tiernan finished in 17th (out of 300 runners) in the ECAC Division III Cross Country championships in Williamstown, Ma. The senior completed the 8K race in 27:06.24.
